Don’t Be A McCain: Hype Machine Goes Political
Hype Machine seems to have joined the political fray today by coming out in Support of McCain and Palin, or have they? It’s kinda tricky to tell, but one thing is for sure, pictures of John McCain are all over the site as default user images.
To be honest it is pretty off putting and doesn’t even pertain to anything musical. I think it would have been cleverer to do their little pro-McCain / anti-McCain jaunt in a slightly less obvious way, with link hover text and general copy on the site. What’s more, for those of us whom are members of any other nation state on this planet, we might not even care to troll around a site having the US 2008 election shoved in our face.
I know democracy is great and its a wonderful thing to be able to shove it in everyone else’s face, but let’s get a little sense of reality and skip it where not relevant. If they want to do something fun, why not turn the site into a haunted house for halloween, or translate the site into ghoulish, a la pirate like Flickr did.
If they must persist, then a nice little “Get Rid of McCain” button, or a pick your candidate option, with the ability for your to slap Obama all over the site. If nothing else it would be a nice little pre-election experiment and poll of the demographic that taps into what Hype Machine has to offer. That being said, given the presumed age-groups using the site, I could probably tell you the answer straight away.
Obama all the way baby!
